How Do They Make that Music?

Funkalleros Play the Loft at Little Creatures

This had to be one of my all-time favourite Funkallero nights - can't wait to see em back at Little Creatures again soon. Top work team!

The Loft at Little Creatures in Freo was a fantastic setting for the Funkalleros - suave, sophisticated and theatrical in a layed back, casual, 'Freo' kind-a-way. Perfecto Mundo! Seemed the crowd had a great night...Robbie Jalapeno started the nite (nice guitar work Robbie) and finished with a round of Happy Birthday to some punters in the far corner...Only took one song from the Funkalleros to pack the dance floor - and it remained that way all night. This is my kinda gig...and the gang of Spaniards seemed to be loving it too.

Raul went berzerk on Percussion - It was the hardest, fastest, most intense set we'de seen him ever play. How fortunate we are to witness such raw talent. With the recent news of him having to leave Australia due to Immigration woes we were all feeling it that night but Raul was certainally the most fierce about expressioning his emotions - and those congas sure did cop a hiding! - We're lovin it Raul - Thanks. And also a hi out to Oslow who got up and gave it a good bashing too.

Funkalleros Play Devilles Pad

Was a great first set...unfortunately we didn't get to stay on due a little over-reaction on the part of an overly dilligent barman who was overly offended when Jose over compensated with his empty bottle that went flying over the bar in over 4 separate peices.

Percussionist Raul Roja Villas

Perth City Farm Rocks

The organic granola was out in full force last Sunday at the Perth City Farm. Funkalleros wrapped up the day with a glittery last set - loved by all (mature fairies, hyperactive kids, hippies "peace love and respect" and senior citizens) - Thanks again Funkalleros for taking us outside our comfort zone and providing us with some solid tunes. All ages gigs really do add another dimension to the experience.

Radio Interview: soon on ABCs Daily Planet

Funkalleros get 'Pitched' by Lucky Oceans - Presenter and Producer for ABC's Daily Planet.

Tune in on Thursday 1st of May or go to the ABCs Daily Planet for a listen to the podcast.

Program airs:
Mon-Fri 2.20pm (So that will be Thursday the 1st of May for the Funkalleros) repeated Mon-Thu 11.20pm

Daily Planet says:
Casserole of Humanity is the name of the new, ebullient, second CD by the
Funkalleros, the Fremantle-based Latin music band founded by Argentina-born
brothers Abe and German Dunovits.

Abe sings, plays the lutes and wrote
the songs, all in Spanish, which relate to politics and his experiences growing
up in Argentina and in Madrid. German plays timbales, Panamanian-born Raul Rojas
Villa plays congas, bata and other percussion, and a section of trumpet, sax and
flute add to the festivities. The all-original song component is unusual for a
Latin band, but so are their influences - Freddie King, Funkadelic, The Clash,
Manu Chao and flamenco-blues group Pata Negra.

Good job on hitting the airwaves. Looking forward to sitting round the iPod for this one!
